WIBO LUANGDIRAM COMPETITION
LCF Knowledge Management Team is happy to announce that there will be a Luangdimai traditional dance song singing competition during the Concluding Program of its first ever Luangdimai Madimbau 2022 starting from 21st April to 22nd April to be held at Laisong village, Dima Hasao District, Assam.
The competition is for composition of tune and singing of the pre-constructed lyrics set in Luangdilat (which is given below). However the competition is not separate for composition and singing even though grading may be given to them separately (melody and the rest) and added together during the event. All the grading will be done live and all the jury members shall be appointed from amongst the experts and other distinguished personality having maximum exposure to cultural dances & songs of Luangdimai people.
Here are some more points needing consideration by those taking part in the competition:
A. About the Song:
1. The title of the song is “ Wibo Luangdiram” meaning “Blessed Luangdiram”. Luangdiram is the compact contiguous geographical land in North East India being occupied by Luangdimai from time immemorial. Wibo Luangdiram song is to be composed and sing individually or by group of people to accompany a particular Luangdimai traditional dance form “Luangdilem” (which will be developed by team of experts later) in a festive setting.
2. The tune and rhythm of the song to be composed must be of purely traditional Luangdimai pattern. It means to say that the tune and other nuances shall not follow western, classical, gospel, pop,blues, country, etc of other culture’s musical genre.
3. As stated earlier, the tempo, style and other nuances shall follow the standard and existing Luangdimai dance song form, preferably composite of regional variants and dialectal elements of the Luangdimai people in Luangdiram.
4. Copy of tune from any existing Luangdimai folk song or dance song is prohibited. If such element/attempt is found at any stage in the process of scrutiny of the competition, it is liable for rejection of entry and participation.
5. The competition is the singing of Wibo Luangdiram in Luangdilat only.
B. Submission of Entry
1. Any Luangdimai can take part in this event.
2. All those who want to take part in the competition must upload their recorded audio at https://luangdimai.org/song for screening purpose only. The last date of submission is 12th April 2022. The song should be recorded in audio mode through mobile phone or any recording device in studio or any quiet background.
3. At screening stage, participants can use drum/any other musical instruments.
4. All entries will be screened and upon selection or rejection by Screening Committee composed of Jury Members from all five regions of Luangdiram, the result thereof shall be displayed in www.luangdimai.org and the link shall be shared to the person concerned on 15th April 2022.
5. Any group of Luangdimai can take part in the event and upon awarded, the prize shall be given to the group only.
6. Any Luangdimai(s) can give tune (of their choice and creativity) to the song without tampering the lyrics provided in Luangdilat and any second Luangdimai can sing the song at the competition. However the prize shall be given to the singer alone/group which presented the song.
C. Mode of Competition
1. Competition is in Live Mode at the event whereby the singer has to present the song to the jury and participants of the Luangdimai Madimbau 2022, Laisong, Dima Hasao District, Assam on 22nd April 2022.
2. Accompaniment of musical instrument(s) other than traditional drum is not allowed on stage.
3. Accompaniment of musical instruments via playback of track is allowed and encouraged on stage.
D. Jury Members:
Jury members will be selected by the Knowledge Management Team of LCF and they shall screen all the entries upon receiving at the screening stage.
- The Jury members will not be allowed to know the name, village, town, region and other personal details of the participant.
- They will judge the entry according to the following points with scale from 0 to 10 in each category both at Screening Stage and in the Final Event:
- Melody
- Traditional Touch
- Diction
- Voice Quality
- Originality
The benchmark for passing of screening shall be decided by the Knowledge Management Team as per the number of entries taken into account.
Prizes:
Luangdimai Madimbau 2022 Organising Committee has set the following prizes for the best 3 with cash rewards and a citation each. All participants will also receive a signed certificate of gratitude.
FIRST PRIZE : 15000 INR
SECOND PRZIE : 10000 INR
THIRD PRIZE : 5000 INR
